Love Is....

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Imagine if the whole world could live by this standard that God has given us? There would be so much peace, love, and unity between everyone, and the world would be a different place. To truly love someone is to do what 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says. As humans, with our sinful nature, we have a hard time putting on love and showing it to everyone around us. God is love, and is the greatest example of how we should love someone. God gave up His only son to die to save us because He loved us so much, and could not imagine heaven without us.

Not only did Jesus willingly die for us, God is SO patient with us, forgives us no matter what, rejoices in us, and so many more qualities that models to us how we should love. We should wake up everyday aiming to be like God in everything we do. When we show love to others, we should never expect anything in return. Jesus died a brutal death for us without even expecting us to except Him back and follow Him, He even knew that there would be people who would never love Him back, but He took the punishment of death anyways.

We should strive to be able to put our names where it says “Love” in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7, and use that as a reminder everyday to love in each one of those aspects. It can be very hard some days and towards certain people to be loving towards them, but whenever you feel the urge creeping back into your body to do something unloving, turn your focus back onto the verse, and remind yourself of God's love and that you do not deserve it, but are given it anyways no matter how many times you mess up, so you should do the same to those who may not deserve it either. Love is the best way to give back to someone and show them God's love by reflecting it in your own life.
