2020 - A year no one expected

And just like that another year has gone by in a blink of an eye. Though this year has definitely been one for the books. Last year, on December 31st at 11:59pm everyone was gathered with their families and friends ready to welcome the new year of 2020 and celebrated when that hand turned to 12:00am. Little did we know that we were celebrating for a year that would make history. No one knew what was going to happen or that we would be living in a world wide pandemic. I bet most people are cheering for 2021 because it means we get to leave this past year behind us and this year was one many would not like to remember. This pandemic has taken a lot from me and everyone around the world. This past year was suppose to be the year I would finish my senior year, have a graduation, and so many more things that we were unable to do because of the world we live in right now. Even though I am so excited for this new year, this past year has not been all bad. Instead of looking only to the future, waiting in anticipation for the new year, we should look back and see all the good that has come out of the year we have just lived. Even though corona has taken our normal lives from us, it has brought us together as families and communities in ways we could never imagine. Without the pandemic, we would not have the opportunity to grow closer with our families and have that precious time with each other that we will not have forever. This year has also taught us that we need to rely on God and trust Him, because He is the only one who knew this was coming and what He has planned for this pandemic.

Even though we see the world falling apart before our eyes, we can trust that God is holding it with His hands and this new year will be nothing but amazing if we allow God to guide us and work in our lives. We may celebrate 2020 being out of our sight, but this new year is not guaranteed for any of us and this virus is not over yet, but if we go in with a negative view on it, we will miss all the amazing things and opportunities we will get. There is nothing we can do to change what is happening and what will happen in the world, but we can change our attitudes and turn our focus on God and what incredible things he will do in this new year. Everyday is a gift, we don't deserve it, but God allows us to wake up breathing each day, and so we should live each day this coming year to the fullest and not take any moment we get for granted, because this past year has taught us that nothing is permanent and even something like being able to go in public and gather in groups was something we never thought we would loose. We should take this time to reflect on 2020 and see how God has worked in our lives and what He is teaching us through this experience that the whole world will always remember. Instead of dwelling on the things we have lost or missed out on, we should look at the good things we have been given during this pandemic and the things we will get in the future, because the future is bright, we just need to be willing to open our eyes to see it and decide how we will look upon 2021.
